If anyone is looking for a new best friend who needs a little help being her best doggy self, look no further! Meg (short for Nutmeg, Megadog, ArMeggedon, etc) is looking for a home that can give her more time and than we currently are.
A little background: I'm a disabled person who originally got Meg as a service dog prospect from a breeder I now know is less than reputable based on stories from former clients and reassessing her breeding practices upon meeting her (she insulted past clients, doesn't believe in responsible spay/neuter, etc I had several stints in the hospital for medical issues I won't bore you with, but during that time I neglected Meg's training and as I was completely unable to do anything with her. I have come to the that she is just too much to handle for me and my family, she's tripped and injured my mom enough times that she's a safety hazard and thus I don't think she's safe around small children (under ten) or older individuals.
She isn't potty trained very well, Meg has accidents if you don't keep her on a very strict schedule. However, she's incredibly intelligent and I believe that with work and effort she could be made into the perfect dog for someone. She also doesn't know many commands besides Sit and Meg, Here! signaling her to come to you. She jumps, and she growls when she is excited or playing and is a bit mouthy although has NEVER shown aggression or bitten, I've made sure that she never gets too overstimulated or overwhelmed so to avoid that.
She is as previously stated EXTREMELY intelligent and friendly, perhaps a little too friendly to cats but she will learn to respect their space if they're assertive like our cats are, timid cats are not recommended. She loves dogs that love her, is a high energy hiking buddy (if you have the energy to keep up with her and is extremely affectionate and snuggly when she's all tired out. She is a bit small for her breed (Old English Sheepdog) at about 45 lbs last we weighed her. She needs further veterinary care and sees Dr. Gaide at Five Points Veterinary Hospital in Albion, MI but is at present up to date on shots with some upcoming in October that I will probably get for her as of our next appointment early that month.
She is such a great dog, who loves her people and is extremely happy and carefree but I know she'd do even better in a home that could curb that energy and train her to be confident and her best self. She needs a grooming appointment as soon as possible, due to financial constraints I've only ever groomed her at home and because her breed is so high maintenance she would be much better off with someone who could keep the down better than I can. I also suspect she might have some skin like a yeast infection, she's been itching her tummy, privates, and paws a lot and her hair on her chest has thinned some.
I really hate to do this, but she needs someone more capable than I am. She is such a lovely girl, I am sure you could train her to even be a therapy dog with some work But service work just isn't in the cards anymore, and anything beyond companion and comfort work or possibly dog sports and obedience, it seems like you'd be better off finding a different dog.
Meg is absolutely amazing and deserves a better home. Due to her breed, her being unspayed, and me not wanting to see her be sold to a badly intentioned person, I will request a rehoming fee that can be discussed based on the home she goes to. She will come with food, a harness and leash, and some of her toys among other things. NO BREEDERS, NO FAKE ANIMAL RESCUES, AND ABSOLUTELY NO DOG ABUSERS. I will have high standards for her new home, I'm not in a hurry to rehome Meg and I'm certainly not trying to get rid of her in any capacity. She is a beloved friend and I'm so sad I have to give her up. Thanks for reading and have a good day. Text or email with questions and for her rehoming fee
