This is a small antique mid-19th century Gilt Chinese black lacquer cabinet made before 1880. The precise date cannot be determined for the main reason there is no hallmarks or any other kinds of marks on this cute little cabinet that can be used to identify it. In 1880, all products coming into the United State for resell must have the country of origin mark on it. There is no screws, nail, or hinges on this cabinet doors or draws. The draw pulls and the door latch are hand foraged and not machine made. The draw pulls and the door latch are held on with a stiff wire. The design on the front of this little cabinet is hand painted. It is in its oriental state with no repairs or being refinished. It does have some small damages on the feet. (see photos) In addition, the lacquer finish has some and scuff marks. The cabinet is about two hundred years old and is in great shape for its age. These types of cabinets are very hard to fine. My estimate of time it was made is from 1800 to 1850. Marks of origin were first put into law in 1880 in this country for import products. It is sometime referred to as Qing-dynasty cabinet.
